Goal is made on the lines of Chak De India but unlike the latter it lacks intensity. It is a spiel to the core with some Desh Bhakti in it. It is quite evident that the movie tries to awaken the patriotic feeling of the audience, but fails to do so. The story has been repeated in so many movies earlier that it is quite a predictable movie. The movie is like body without soul.
The movie tells the story of Southall United Football Club. The club captained by Shaan Ali Khan (Arshad Warsi) is in deep crisis. The club faces an eviction order by City Council. The only way to save the club from disaster is by winning the Combined Counties Football League. Shaan accepts the challenge to save the club. He takes help of Tony Singh (Boman Irani) who agrees to train his team. The club does not have an aggressive forward, so comes our hero Sunny Bhasin(Johan Abraham). Sunny wants to play for England but due to his color he is rejected from the team. The only problem is that Shaan and Sunny hate each other. Inspite of all these odds the team advances towards victory. Sunny becomes a football star. Johny Bakshi (Dalip Tahil) lures Sunny and convinces him to get out of the team. What happens to Southall is what the story deals with.
The script of the movie is repeated many times in the past and thus it is not difficult to predict the plot of the movie. The character of Tony Singh is repeated in almost all the sports movie. We don’t understand the need to show the coach as a de-esteemed person. This trend is followed in almost all the sport’s drama. John gives a good performance and plays his role in a stylish manner. Bipasha has been wasted; her character has no prominence in the film. The music of the movie is just above average. The track Billo Rani was not required at all and it just pops out of nowhere. It was irrelevant song. The movie is just about average. Do not compare with Chak De India as the latter is far too good.
We always knew that Aamir is an exceptional actor but we never knew that he has exceptional directional skills. With Taare Zameen Par he has successfully highlighted the ill effects of today’s competitive world and its effect on the psyche of a child. The film deals with children with special needs and highlights the importance of the role played by parents, teachers and society in the life of children.
The film begins with the life of a dyslexic child Ishan (Darsheel) who has difficulty in reading and writing. His parents fail to help him as they never realize that he is dyslexic. They think that he is not interested in studies. Our little genius is cheerfully unconcerned about his future. He sees fish and trees flying but fails to see the difference in alphabets. When asked the answer of three multiplied by six our boy visualizes planet 3 hit into planet 6.Thus he gets the answer 3 into 6 is three. Unfortunately his parents send him to a boarding school where his problems are compounded. His self confidence is shattered and he feels neglected and ridiculed. It is only due to personal interest of an arts teacher, Ram Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) that Ishan comes out of his isolation. Ram gradually succeeds in teaching Ishan to read and write and his hard work pays; Ishan not only becomes an art’s scholar but also passes all his annul exams with flying colors.
The story connects with everyone in the audience. The script does not make anyone a villain but just shows the ignorance of the teachers and parents who want their children to perform in the competitive world. The morale of the movie is simple ‘Every child has his own speed and way of learning. The weakness of a child should be overlooked and his strengths should be enhanced’.
The music of the movie blends beautifully with the story and is quite simple and melodious. At times it does play heavy on your emotions. Overall it’s an outstanding movie which must be watched by everyone. Hats off to Aamir!
Sanjay Gupta along with his team of directors and writers has taken story telling to a new dimension. We have seen many stories being narrated within a movie before, but unlike any of them, the stories of Dus Kahaniyaan have no connection with each other. Though it’s a new style of story telling it does manage to attract your attention. The only problem is that the stories are too short. It does not give the viewer enough time to enjoy the movie. The stories end too soon thus giving very little time for the actors to leave an impact on the audience. Out of the ten stores only four are good, rest six are just about average.
The first half of the movie deals mainly with repressive sexual topics and becomes too monotonous. The only respite in the first half is given by Strangers in the Night which is quiet good. Neha Dhupia has really improved upon her acting skills. The second half is quiet good as it has stories like Rice plate (Shabana Azmi,Nasiruddin Shah), Gubbare (Nana Patekar, Rohit Roy and Anita Hassanandani) and Rise and fall(Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shety).
Shabana Azmi and Nasiruddin Shah have given wonderful performances. It’s great to watch them as they bring their character to life. Shabana Azmi portrays her character in an exceptional manner. We recommend the current generation of actors to take some acting tips from her. Her performance is the best. Inspite of the predictable story, Nana Patekar manages to leaves an impact on the audience.
Dus Kahaniyaan is a great attempt towards story telling but it fails to strike the right chord. The only problem is that it does not give its actors sufficient time to perform. Some of the stories like Zahir, Lovedale and Sex on the beach could have been avoided. If you have nothing else to do, go and watch this movie.
If you are interested in honor, courage, patriotism and if you like to watch action movies then you must not miss 300.The movie is non stop action and is full of violence and bloody battles. The movie is based on epic graphic novel by Frank Miller. It keeps you wonder struck throughout the movie. The battle scenes are realistic and are shot in a unique style. The CGI animation is used in an interesting manner.
The movie is a visual effects treat. Almost all the scenes are digitally altered to give an illustrative look to the film, but due care is taken to make the scenes appear realistic. The film is historically accurate to a large extent. The Spartan culture is very beautifully illustrated in this movie. It is worth watching even though it is filled with extreme violence.
The story begins with a narration by a Spartan named Dillios (David Wenham). He explains how his King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) is subjected to the hardships of Spartan life and how he faces these hardships and comes out as a winner and becomes the King of Sparta. Dillios further tells the story of how a Persian messenger threatens Spartans with slavery and humiliates Queen Gorgo(Lena Headey). Angry at this proposal of submission, King Leonidas kicks the messenger into a death well. The Persian King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) bribes the Spartan priests, who misinterpret the oracle and order Leonidas not to go to war. In spite of this Leonidas selects 300 of his best men and proceeds to the Hot Gates at Thermopylae. These men fight bravely against the Persian army at the Hot Gates. Xerxes is quite impressed by the bravery of Spartans and meets Leonidas.
King Leonidas tells Xerxes that before the war ends they will make Xerxes bleed and ensure that he comes out of his belief of being a God King. The Spartans fight bravely and are subdued due to a traitor called Ephialtes who shows the goat path to Persians. Due to this treachery, the Persians succeed in subduing Leonidas and his brave 300.The climax of the film is very intense and leaves you with awe and respect for King Leonidas. The movie ends with Dillios finishing his tale on the battlefield in front of Spartans thus motivating them to defeat Persians. For a change the dubbing of the movie in Hindi is good and it succeeds in maintaining the mood of the movie. A must watch for action lover’s.
Anees Bazmee teams up with producer Firoz A Nadiadwala to give us the most hilarious comedy of the year.Go and watch Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor at their comic best. These two veteran film actors really know how to perform comedy. It’s a treat to watch the tapori acts of Anil Kapoor. He has by now mastered the tapori acts.Akshay Kumar has somehow not given his best.He is not impressive and at times is boring and repetitive in his acts.It seems he is tired of his comic acts and it is quite evident from his performance in this movie.Paresh Rawal is again casted in same stereotype role. It’s high time that he plays different roles, not only for himself but also for the audience. We are tired of his being a typecast.Katrina Kaif has nothing much to do in this film. For a change Mallika Sherwat has tried her hand at comedy which has come quite well.
The story is quiet simple Uday Shetty(Nana Patekar) is a Dubai based Don who is quite happy bullying people. He wants to get his sister Sanjana(Katrina Kaif) married to a bachelor who is from a reputed family.Uday meets Rajiv (Akshay Kumar) and is convinced that he will be a perfect match for his beloved sister.Meanwhile Rajiv and Sanjana fall in love with each other and intend to enter holy matrimony. The only problem is Dr.Ghungaroo(Paresh Rawal) who is Rajiv’s uncle. He wants Rajiv to marry a girl who has no connection with any criminal family.Intially Dr.Ghungaroo accepts their relationship but when he realises that Sanjana’s brother is a Don he decides to go against the marriage. He puts forward a condition that if the dons’ mend their ways, he will give consent for the marriage.
The movie gets boring at times but is rescued by Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor. The Script could have been better. The music is just about average. The movie is worth watching only because of good performances by Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor.Don’t expect much from Akshay Kumar as he has sleepwalked throughout the film.Go and watch the fate of Ranjana and Rajiv.
Want to see movie of the decade, than go and watch this movie.Imtiaz Ali has taken romance and comedy to a new level in this movie. The performances by Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor is fantastic. The script is well written and the direction is good.
Aditya (Shahid Kapoor) is a loser in life till he meets Geet(Kareena Kapoor) on a train.Geet talks non stop and gets herself in trouble at almost every juncture but she treats life like a game. And this wonderful quality of her changes Aditya’s outlook to life.
The movie has many intreasting scenes which are full of humour which make you smile and laugh. The scene in which they check in at a hotel in Ratnam is really good.Kareena and Shahid chemistry really comes out well in this scene. The other scene in which Geet makes call to Anshuman is really funny.
The best part in the movie is that there is no villain as such.Even the so called villain Anshuman(Tarun Arora) has humour in his character. The journey which Geet and Aditya undergo till they reach Bhatinda is worth watching as the comic timing in it is perfect .
The story line is simple.Aditya is failure in life.He loses his beloved and gets depressed when he attends her marriage. In that state of mind he boards a train where he meets Geet the chatter-box.Initially he gets disgusted of Geet’s non stop chatter and tries to get away from her by getting down from the train.Geet tries to get him back on the train and in turn misses the train herself.Geet tells Aditya that he has to escort her to Bhatinda as he is responsible to get her in such a situation. When they reach Bhatinda, Geet’s family mistakes them as lovers. Aditya helps Geet to run away from her family to meet her lover Anshuman(Tarun Arora). This further confirms the suspicion of Geet’s family. After dropping Geet at Manali Aditya leaves for Mumbai thinking Geet is with Anshuman. Anshuman dumps Geet as he is afraid of his family and society ,so Geet stays for nine months away from her family and works as a teacher in Shimla.Subsequently,Aditya finds her and convinces her to return to her family. But than begins the twist in the story.Anshuman relises his mistake and agrees to marry Geet. When all of them reach Bhatinda, Geet’s family mistakes Aditya and Geet to be lovers. So what is the future of Geet ? Will she marry Anshuman or destiny has something else in store for her.
Pritam’s music is quiet melodious.Tracks like Tum Se Hi by Mohit Chauhan and Aaoge jab Tum by Ustad Rashid Khan is full of melody and good lyrics.Mauja Hi Mauja has already been a hit song and is being played all over the country.
Go watch this movie as such movies are made once in a blue moon.It has everything in it good direction, script, humour and above all great performances. So go enjoy the movie.
